Two new drama courses for 2012

I'm very pleased to announce two new courses at PJ Dance and Drama which grew out of the hard work of students and teachers over the last two years.

Our singing classes for juniors and seniors really took off, with all students entering themselves for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art's (LAMDA) Musical Theatre exam this year. Our examiner's support, as well as the positive response by parents at Parents' Evening, have encouraged us to offer Theatre Studies Workshop for students aged 8+ and 13+. These will take the place of our regular singing classes.

Owing to the demand for a fun drama class aimed at young adults, I'm equally pleased to offer Young Adults' Drama in the new time slot of 10am on Sundays.

PJ DnD Drama Students score 100% Passes in LAMDA exams

Congratulations to all the students who took the recent London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art exams at our studio, which is also a private LAMDA exam centre. These young people from the ages of 6-16 had to bravely perform their chosen songs or speeches before an examiner from London. For the second year running, and since we opened, our students scored 100% passes in all exams. The subjects offered this year were: Speaking Verse and Prose, Spoken English, Reading for Performance, Acting and Musical Theatre. A huge Well done! to all staff and parents who acted as coaches and steady support throughout the weeks of practice - you deserve a certificate too!

The end of the LAMDA exam day (Saturday 12 November) - a few members of staff, students, family and friends got together for one last photo to mark the end of another successful year for the Drama department of PJDnD. We worked hard to express and impress and had a jolly good time.

With Parents' Morning and the LAMDA exams behind us, I would like to say a huge WELL DONE to our Teen Drama group. We meet for barely an hour each Sunday morning and yet they produced such an impressive range of performances for both parents and examiner this month. The exam pieces were monologues both sad and funny, the theme of bullying explored in song and poetry, extracts from children's classics and a personal recital by Ashley Phun, 16, on the importance of following your heart. Thanks also to Teun and Aura, our volunteers, who were sympathetic listeners and an effective support group with wonderful and fresh ideas whenever we got stuck - we couldn't have done it without you. The 'LIARS' of JPSc 2011

Last Friday 4 November, I was given the honour to be chief judge of the BIG MOUTH Contest, a speech competition organised by the Junior Public Speaking club. The rules of the contest were based on Toastmasters' guidelines. Its members are mostly home-schooled kids aged under 18 years, from all over. Sixteen of them bravely got on the stage and faced an audience of friends and family and told their tall tales (lied!) or twisted fairy tales, to thunderous cheers and applause. I had a very entertaining afternoon and am most grateful to Eshan and organisers who invited me, and...

... thanks to all I met who gave me such a warm welcome!

Congratulations, Ms Emily and her NATD dance exam candidates! Not only did all our young performers pass but all obtained Distinction for their efforts in the recent dance exams.

Sunday 18 Sept 2011 - The day of the NATD exams with Ms Gilmore, our examiner from London. She complimented our dancers on their presentation and hard work, and praised Ms Emily and Aunty Janice for a well-organised examination session.

PJDnD's Saturday Junior Drama class students are hard at work creating a play based on an idea from a short story, about a flea that lives in the London Underground. What's so special about that, you ask? Well, it so happens that the flea has mutated into a giant, seemingly invincible creature, stalking underground commuters. And it is up to 'Scar-eye' (an original character created by Aria) and her friends who clean the tunnels at night, to find a way to get rid of the flea --- or lives will be at stake!!
